Jefferson County MRC Early Action Project

The focus of the Jefferson County MRC's Early Action Project is two-fold. First, to compile and share scientific data with the public regarding status and trends of local marine resources, and second, to engage the public in the process of considering possible remedies to habitat degradation and stock declines, including voluntary marine protected areas.

Part of our approach this year will be to hold a series of five public  meetings to allow for this information exchange. As an initial  “meet-n-greet” event our first public meeting will be held as a  festival-style open house located on Port Townsend’s waterfront. This event  will give the public a chance to meet the members of the MRC in an informal
setting and to learn about other entities working on various aspects of  marine resource issues. The focus of this event is “Community Invovlement:  Sharing Data, Seeking Solutions” .

We want to highlight research and monitoring efforts in the Jefferson County  portion of the Northwest Straits ecosystem to help the public get better  connected with the sound science that will drive new managment efforts.  We’ll round things out with some marine resource-related musical  performances, art displays, “edu-tainment” games and more.
